Compare states, provinces and prefectures

Try the places you know a little closer to home.

01 / REGIONAL ATLASES

The US, Japan, China and Brazil have a daily ten-question game. Canada and Australia start with five-question practice.

Country size quizzes by continent

Five questions from one part of the world. No daily deadline.

02 / A FAMILIAR PLACE. A BIGGER PICTURE.

Your home region
against the world

Is your state, province or prefecture bigger than a country? Pick a familiar region, or let the game mix them up.

Each five-question round compares one region with one country or territory. Make your own comparison to share →

SMALL MAPS. BIG SURPRISES.

A size game,
not a memory test

The names are right there on the cards. All you need to decide is which place has more area. After each guess, the outlines resize so you can see the difference.

The world game includes 181 countries and selected territories, not every country. Areas are calculated from map boundaries, rather than official land-area statistics.

How we measure and display area ↗
01

Choose the larger place

Tap a card or use the arrow keys. Starting outlines fit their cards; they are not to scale.

02

See the size difference

The maps rescale, with approximate areas and a ratio. Take your time before the next question.

03

Challenge a friend

Send the same questions without the answers. The next daily game starts at 00:00 UTC.

Before your next round

What does “bigger” mean in this game?

Area, not population. We compare approximate areas calculated from Natural Earth map boundaries. These can differ from official land-area or total-area figures.

Why do the outlines start at similar sizes?

Each outline fits its own card before you choose, so its display size is not a clue. After your answer, both outlines rescale to show their relative areas.

When does the daily challenge change?

At 00:00 UTC. Players starting the current version of the same daily game get the same ten questions. A round already in progress keeps its original questions.

Can I keep playing after the daily game?

Yes. Try endless mode, explore a state or province game, or revisit missed comparisons in My progress. No account is needed; your history stays in this browser.
